Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a coenzyme that your body produces naturally. This coenzyme plays a major role in several different systems throughout your body such as counteracting tissue damage, maintaining muscle function and tone, optimizing healthy cell growth, and reversing damage to the bodies mitochondria. NAD is pivotal in the repair and lengthening of the ends of the bodies DNA. The ends of the bodies DNA are called telomeres and it is thought is we can repair and give length to your telomeres one can slow down the aging process.

As we age, the level of NAD present in our body decreases over time. Stress, reduction in sleep, drugs and environmental factors can accelerate the process of lowering the body’s stores of NAD.

NAD can improve overall health and wellness, boost metabolism and combat age-related disease. Replacing lost stores of NAD may also improve cognition. Studies have shown great promise that NAD may play a role in reversing neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer’s.

One of the most important advantages to replacing NAD is to support healthy mitochondrial function and growth. To many, the mitochondria are referred to as the power-houses of the body. Found primarily in muscle, mitochondria are responsible for producing energy. Activity such as aerobic training can help train our mitochondria to produce energy more efficiently. As the body gains strength through exercise, it adapts and many of the bodies processes run more efficiently. As our mitochondria work harder to produce energy, in turn the body is provided with more oxygen. Thus the more oxygen the body can produce and send to muscle, the faster more energy that can be produced. This is one big reason why it is important to maintain adequate levels of NAD; it ensures the process of energy production occurs at an optimal level.

Let’s discuss two ways to supplement NAD in your body: supplements and IV infusions.

IV NAD Therapy vs Supplements

There are two main ways to supplement NAD in your body: supplements and IV infusions. Whether you choose an oral supplement or an IV treatment, the ultimate goal is to optimize levels of NAD in the body.

Obtaining an NAD supplement is easy. One can shop online or obtain some products at your local supplement store. Obtaining oral supplements directly from the manufacture or a dispensing provider as never been more important. The main reason is that not all supplements are created equal. It is important for the product to be backed by research, known as an authority to provide exception quality product and have relationships with medical providers.Oral supplementation is as easy as taking a multivitamin daily or making a protein shake. But are oral supplements effective?

Oral NAD Supplements

Oral NAD and other supplements are absorbed by your digestive system, which is a complex process that impacts how much your body actually absorbs. More importantly, the absorption of supplement through the stomach varies from person to person due to factors such as gastric emptying time and circulation.

Because supplements are not 100 % absorbed the bioavailability ( the amount needed to supplement the body ) is very low. As a result, oral NAD is less effective than IV infusions because of their low absorption rate. This is one reason oral supplement dosing is either in higher quantities or more often.

One important factor that should not be overlooked, is oral supplementation is very safe. IV treatments are not without their complications although rare. When choosing IV treatments it is important to seek treatment with a qualified physician and qualified staff. Oral supplements may be preferable for certain individuals; immunocompromised individuals and those not wanting to use injections.

IV NAD Therapy

IV treatments are administered directly into your bloodstream. Intravenous NAD treatments bypass the digestive system altogether and therefore 100% is absorbed by the body. Following treatment, NAD is immediately available for use by your cells.

In addition to NAD itself, IV infusions have many other benefits. NAD is delivered via a saline solution which rehydrates your body. The IV solution may also flush out toxins and free radicals. Not only do you boost cellular health and regeneration, you can detoxify your body at the same time.

Why Get IV NAD Therapy?

IV NAD treatments are most effective when used on a regular basis. Long-term maintenance and cellular support contribute to less overall damage to your mitochondria, improved cognitive health and slowing of the aging process.

Each treatment typically takes a minimum of four hours to administer one NAD IV infusion. PRAMAH offers a secluded IV therapy room with lounging chairs, TV, music, charging stations for your laptop or phone and curtains to separate you from others. Longer infusions such as NAD can also be scheduled to provide you the space all to yourself.

NAD treatment therapy consists of 500 mg of NAD+ in 1 liter of saline solution typically infused over the course of 2-4 hours.

Other vitamins, supplements and some medication can be added to the therapy such as amino acids, B complex, B12, Glutathione and anti-nausea medication.
